The history of veneer actually begins with the concept of conservation – right up our street here at Sylvie. The first records of veneer originate from, would you believe it, the ancient Egyptians. Egypt consists mostly of desert, and forests were scant, so wood was highly valued and they had to stretch what supplies they had. Slicing it very thinly was a beautiful solution.
Wood still has the least impact on total energy use, greenhouse gases, air and water pollution than any other construction material. And, on top of all that, it makes a stunning lamp shade.
